Rough: White fortification agate
Picture: white and gray banded agate from India
$2.50
White fortification agate from India is a high quality fine banded agate. (Stock 290) The weight of the rough pieces run from 1/2 pound to 15 pounds each. This white to blue/gray chalcedony agate will make some beautiful polished cabochons and more, or just polish the face for an interesting specimen.  White fortification agate is an excellent agate for pendants and more and would look elegant over a red, black, blue or other dark color to show the pattern.  The fine banded fortification agate is reminiscent of Lake Superior agate. This is the most dense agate we have slabbed in a long time.  Remember to slab with a sharp blade.  We use our diamond blade dresser and sharpen/clean the blade with each slab for larger rough. See Common problems when using your rock saw listed under LAPIDARY TIPS for tips on sharpening your saw blade. Some material is thought to have iris agate effects showing colors of the rainbow. For iris agate effects, the slabs are sliced very thin across the layers, then polished.
