The November 2006 Shop Friend of the Month is Derrol Pasco of Hurley, South Dakota with his Tiffany style gemstone lamps using gemstone slabs, copper foil, etc. Congratulations Derrol! The colors and patterns of the slabs, plus your skills, turn out lamps to be proud of. Some of the slabbed material used in the Tiffany style gemstone lamps are Brazil agate, banded obsidian, Australian crazy lace and what he calls cullet from Mansfield, OH, the beautiful red looking material. The cullet was acquired some 4 or 5 years ago and is slag glass. Derrol explained, that when a glass foundery is making a batch of glass, what is left over is dumped out and when this material cools, chunks can be broken off and used for making decorative items. Derrol says he is 82 years of age and still holding and keeps busy with his rocks making lamps for family and friends, plus wind chimes, bowls, inlayed benches and more. Thanks again Derrol, for sharing your work using gemstones!
