Turritella agate from WY, is actually a misidentification of Goniobasis, a similar fossilized spiral snail shell and these gastropods are up to 1 1/2" long. The name of turritella is more commonly known and is easier to pronounce then Goniobasis. (Gone-e-o-base-sis. That's not so hard!) The turritella agate slabs will be in colors of amber golds and blue to gray in a gray black to dark brown matrix. Turritella agate slabs will take a nice polish. Most slabs are small with some containing fractures, but orient your work for a nicely polished stone. See some turritella agate in the rough. Turritella agate slabs may be broken then tumbled for great looking tumbled stones. It is quite unique and interesting to see the flay lay of the fossilized snail. Use the polished tumbled stones in one of a kind jewelry items.
